Katie does travel

Hello, I’m Katie

From a young age, I knew there was more of the world to explore even though Australia is a beautiful country and I’m lucky to have been born here.

I had grown up on stories of my parents travelling through Europe when they were in their twenties.

They had spoken about the Greek Islands and drinking ouzo, the beautiful South of France coast line as well as their job on a tour group setting up camp sites all over Europe. They formed some solid friendships that are still going strong to this day.

I had my first overseas holiday when I was 15 where I visited Japan as I studied Japanese in high-school. It totally opened my eyes to a different culture and even though I ate Teriyaki McChicken burgers instead of sushi, it blew my mind! Japan that is and not the burger (although the burger was bloody delicious)..

At 19, I travelled to Central America for three months during uni Summer holidays, working on an environmental farm for two weeks in Costa Rica, touring the country for another two, then exploring the other countries nearby; Belize, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama. It was the most incredible experience and I knew it wouldn’t be my last.

Moving to London was really exciting. I had no job, no-where to live but thankfully it was with my younger sister and I had a few friends in London to help whilst we got ourselves set up. A couple of months in, we bought a Volvo Estate and drove around Europe, sleeping in the boot to save money. I worked so I could go on my next adventure, extending the break from my career in Media however I managed to go back to it in London after a four year hiatus. I started making the most of my weekends instead as I focussed on my career.

Coming back to Australia, I’ve realised there is so much opportunity here to explore during a weekend. I don’t need to dream of far flung lands anymore - New Zealand is perhaps the furtherest destination on my list.

I’m excited to rediscover my home country and take you along for the ride to inspire you to do the same.

Enjoy.
